Hedonist Chicago FAQ - Leather, Orders, Shipping & Warranty

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) — Hedonist Chicago

Brand, Production & Trust

Who is Hedonist Chicago?

Hedonist Chicago is an independent leather goods brand founded with a clear goal: to offer the quality level of high-end luxury brands at prices that remain accessible to everyday customers.

From the beginning, the brand has focused on materials, construction, and practical design rather than marketing-driven storytelling or trend-based positioning. Every product is developed with everyday use in mind and with an emphasis on durability and long-term value.

Where are you based?

Hedonist Chicago is based in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Product development, quality standards, and customer support are managed directly by the brand from the United States.

What products do you design and sell?

Hedonist Chicago designs and sells leather goods with a deliberately focused assortment.

Rather than offering a wide range of similar products, the brand concentrates on a limited number of leather accessories, including belts, wallets, card holders, and selected small leather goods, refining materials, construction, and details before expanding into new categories.

Are your products handmade?

Hedonist Chicago is not positioned as a handmade-only brand.

Most of our products are produced using non-handmade manufacturing methods that allow for consistent quality, durability, and material control. In response to customer demand, we also offer a separate collection of handmade products sourced from specialized manufacturers.

These handmade items are not produced by us directly, but they are carefully selected and offered only after passing our internal quality control.

Which products are handmade and which are not?

Handmade products are offered as a separate collection and are clearly labeled as handmade.

If a product is explicitly described as handmade, it belongs to that collection. If a product is not labeled as handmade, it is not handmade. Each product page clearly states how the item is made so customers know exactly what they are purchasing.

Where are your products made?

Our products are manufactured in the United States, Canada, India, Turkey, and China.

We work exclusively with manufacturers that operate closed production cycles — from leather processing to finished goods — and comply with current certification standards. All production partners follow multi-stage quality control procedures throughout the manufacturing process.

How long have you been in business?

Hedonist Chicago was founded on January 5, 2020.

The Hedonist Chicago brand is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is fully owned by us. All products sold under the Hedonist Chicago name are developed and offered under this registered brand.

What makes Hedonist Chicago different from other leather brands?

Hedonist Chicago was created to close the gap between luxury-level product quality and accessible pricing.

Instead of relying on brand markup or lifestyle marketing, we focus on materials, construction, and clear communication about what each product is and how it is made. No claims are used unless they can be verified at the product level.

Do you work with sustainable or ethical practices?

We approach sustainability and ethics through practical, verifiable actions rather than broad or vague claims.

This includes working with certified manufacturers, prioritizing durable construction, and selecting materials and production methods that meet established industry standards. When specific certifications or sourcing details apply to a product, they are listed directly on the product page.

How can I verify your brand authenticity?

Authentic Hedonist Chicago products are sold only through our official website and through explicitly listed authorized sales channels.

If you have any doubts about a product, seller, or order, please contact us and we will confirm authenticity.

Leather Quality & Materials

What type of leather do you use?

Hedonist Chicago primarily uses full-grain leather across the vast majority of its products. Full-grain leather is a baseline requirement when selecting materials and production partners.

In certain designs, alternative leather constructions may be used to achieve specific structural or functional goals. We never use bonded leather, PU-coated leather, or artificial leather substitutes.

What does “full-grain leather” mean?

Full-grain leather is made from the top layer of the hide with the natural grain left intact. It retains the strongest fiber structure of the leather.

Unlike heavily processed or coated leather, full-grain leather develops character and patina over time rather than degrading with use.

Is your leather genuine or synthetic?

All Hedonist Chicago products are made using genuine natural leather.

We do not use synthetic leather, bonded leather, or artificial leather substitutes. Leather is the primary structural material in our products and is not replaced or imitated by synthetic components.

Where does your leather come from?

Leather used in Hedonist Chicago products is sourced locally within the same countries where production takes place.

We work with manufacturers in the United States, Canada, India, Turkey, and China, using leather produced within those regions. These suppliers operate integrated production facilities and comply with current certification and quality control standards.

Why does leather develop patina over time?

Patina develops naturally as leather is exposed to light, air, and everyday use.

For natural full-grain leather, patina is a positive characteristic rather than a defect. It gives each product a unique appearance and reflects how it is used and cared for over time.

Is leather water-resistant?

Natural leather is not fully waterproof.

It can handle occasional contact with moisture, but prolonged exposure to water may affect its appearance. We do not use artificial waterproof coatings or chemical treatments, preserving the natural properties and scent of the leather. If you want deeper guidance, see Leather water resistance guide.

Will leather change color or texture with use?

Yes. Natural leather may soften, darken slightly, or change texture over time.

These changes are normal characteristics of genuine leather and are not considered defects.

How long should your leather products last?

With proper use and basic care, Hedonist Chicago leather products are designed to last for decades.

Longevity depends on usage conditions and care rather than time alone. For practical care guidance, see Leather care tips. Manufacturing warranties apply only to production defects, not to natural aging or wear. See Warranty.

Do you use leather treatments or coatings?

No. Hedonist Chicago does not use artificial leather treatments or surface coatings.

We intentionally avoid chemical finishes that alter the natural feel, aging process, or scent of leather. If you’re deciding what to use (or avoid) on leather, see Leather treatments and conditioners.

Are your products safe for everyday use (RFID, wear, contact)?

Most of our non-handmade wallets include RFID protection. When RFID protection applies to a specific product, it is listed on the product page.

Our products are designed for everyday contact with skin and clothing. We can’t guarantee every component is nickel-free, but we avoid nickel-containing alloys whenever possible to reduce the risk of skin irritation. If you have sensitivities, please contact us before ordering.

Product-Specific Questions

Belts - Sizing & Hardware

How do I choose the correct belt size?

For the best fit, we generally recommend ordering a belt size 1–2 inches larger than your waist size.

If you already own a belt that fits well, you can also measure it from the buckle (at the buckle pin) to the hole you use most often, and choose the closest size.

If you’re unsure, please contact us before ordering — we’ll help you pick the right size.

How are your belts measured?

Our belt sizes are measured from the buckle pin to the center hole.

When measuring an existing belt for reference, measure from the buckle pin to the hole you use most often, then choose the closest size.

What if I’m between two belt sizes?

If you’re between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size.

It’s better to have extra length than to end up with a belt that’s too short.

How far apart are the belt holes?

In most cases, belt holes are spaced about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.

Some models may vary. If you want to confirm hole spacing for a specific belt, please contact us.

Can I change my selected belt size after placing an order?

Yes — in many cases, as long as your order has not yet shipped.

Please contact us as soon as possible and include your order number so we can update the size before shipment.

Can I shorten my belt if it’s too long?

Yes. If your belt ends up longer than you need (for example, due to a size mistake or changes in body measurements), it can be shortened.

The simplest option is to bring it to a local shoe repair shop or leather professional.

If you prefer to do it yourself, shorten it slowly and carefully: mark the amount you want to remove, cut with sharp scissors, and re-check the fit before removing more.

If you’re unsure which method is best for your specific belt model, you can always contact us.

Can I change the buckle on my belt?

In most cases, yes — many of our belts allow buckle swaps.

However, some models use a fixed construction (for example, the buckle may be stitched in place). If that’s the case, a local shoe repair shop/leather professional can usually help, and you can also contact us for guidance.

Can I buy just a buckle?

Yes. Buckles are available for purchase separately.

If you’re not sure which buckle matches your strap (width/style/compatibility), please contact us and we’ll help you choose the correct option.

Can I buy just a strap?

Yes. In most cases, straps are available for purchase separately (without a buckle).

If you’re trying to match a specific buckle or confirm sizing/compatibility, please contact us and we’ll assist.

Can I use one buckle with multiple straps?

Often, yes — as long as the straps are compatible with that buckle (width, thickness, and attachment style).

To avoid ordering the wrong combination, please contact us with the buckle and strap you want to use, and we’ll confirm compatibility.

Are belt buckles interchangeable between models?

Some buckles are interchangeable between models, but it’s not universal.

The best way to confirm is to contact us with the belt model(s) you have (or want to buy), and we’ll tell you which buckles and straps are compatible.

Wallets & Card Holders

What is the difference between bifold and trifold wallets?

Bifold and trifold wallets differ mainly in layout and organization.

Bifold wallets use a simpler fold and offer a more streamlined profile, while trifold wallets provide additional sections and compartments for those who prefer carrying more items in an organized way.

How many cards can your wallets hold?

Card capacity varies significantly depending on the wallet design.

Some models are intended for a minimal everyday carry, while others are designed to accommodate a larger number of cards, cash, and additional items.

For the best experience, we recommend using each wallet within its intended design rather than overloading it.

Are your wallets slim or bulky?

Our collection includes both slim wallets designed for minimal carry and larger formats intended for higher capacity.

Each model is designed around a specific use case, allowing customers to choose what best fits their everyday needs.

Do wallets stretch over time?

Natural leather may relax slightly with use, especially in card slots.

This is a normal characteristic of genuine leather and part of how a wallet adapts to its owner over time, similar to the development of patina.

Will my wallet soften with use?

Yes. With regular use, leather naturally becomes softer and more flexible.

Many customers consider this one of the most appreciated qualities of natural leather, as the wallet becomes more comfortable and personal over time.

Do your wallets have RFID protection?

All wallets except handmade models are equipped with RFID protection.

Handmade items do not include RFID shielding.

Can I fit cash in your wallets?

Yes. Our wallets are designed to hold cash comfortably.

U.S. bills fit as designed, while overall cash layout may vary depending on the wallet model and its intended use.

Will my wallet lose its shape over time?

With normal use, wallets are designed to retain their shape.

Using the wallet as intended helps maintain its structure over time.

Are card holders suitable for everyday use?

Yes. Card holders are designed for everyday use with a minimal carry approach.

They are ideal for those who prefer carrying only essential cards and keeping things simple.

Are wallets and card holders suitable as gifts?

Yes. Wallets and card holders are popular gift items and come in premium, gift-ready packaging.

Engraving is available on selected products, making them a thoughtful and personal gift option.

Accessories

What are accessories?

Accessories are compact leather goods designed for everyday use and gifting.

They include small functional items created to complement your daily carry.

Do your accessories match your wallets and belts in leather and color?

Many accessories are designed to complement our core leather lineup.

If you are looking for the closest possible match in leather or color, we recommend contacting us before ordering.

Are accessories handmade?

Some accessories are handmade, while others are not.

Each product page clearly indicates whether an item is handmade.

Can accessories be personalized or engraved?

Engraving is available on selected accessories.

If personalization is offered, it will be clearly shown on the product page.

Are accessories suitable as gifts?

Yes. Accessories come in premium, gift ready packaging.

They are popular gift choices for a wide range of occasions.

How do I care for leather accessories?

Leather accessories should be cared for in the same way as other leather goods.

Avoid excess moisture, keep them away from harsh chemicals, and clean gently with a soft cloth.

Will leather accessories change over time?

Yes. Natural leather softens with use and develops character over time.

This process creates a unique patina that makes each piece more personal.

Can accessories be returned or exchanged?

Standard return and exchange policies apply to accessories.

Personalized or engraved items are final sale.

Handmade

What does handmade mean at Hedonist Chicago?

Handmade products are crafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques and natural materials.

Each handmade item reflects a higher level of individual attention, craftsmanship, and character.

Which products are handmade?

Selected wallets, accessories, and leather goods are handmade.

Each product page clearly indicates whether an item is handmade.

Are handmade products different from regular production items?

Yes. Handmade items often feature more detailed construction and unique natural variations.

These differences are part of the character and individuality of handmade leather goods.

Do handmade products look exactly the same?

No. Handmade products may show slight variations in texture, grain, or finish.

These variations are normal and highlight the natural origin of the leather.

Do handmade products require special care?

Handmade products should be cared for like other high quality leather goods.

With regular use, they develop a unique patina that enhances their appearance over time.

Care, Maintenance & Longevity

How do I care for leather products?

Leather products require minimal but consistent care. We recommend handling them with clean, dry hands and avoiding unnecessary exposure to moisture, heat, or chemicals.

Natural leather benefits from regular use and ages best when it is not over-treated. Simple care and mindful use are usually enough to maintain its appearance and performance over time.

For general care guidelines, see our leather care tips: Leather care tips.

How do I clean leather?

For routine cleaning, use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust or surface dirt.

Avoid soaking the leather, using harsh cleaners, or applying household chemicals. Improper cleaning methods can damage the leather’s surface and natural structure.

For more detailed instructions, see: Leather cleaning guide.

How do I protect leather from water?

Leather is not fully waterproof. Occasional contact with moisture is generally not an issue, but prolonged exposure to water should be avoided.

If leather gets wet, allow it to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use heat sources or artificial drying methods.

We do not use waterproof coatings or treatments. For a deeper explanation, see: Leather water resistance.

Can I repair scratches on leather?

Light surface scratches are a normal characteristic of natural leather and often become less noticeable with use as the leather develops patina.

Deeper scratches may require professional repair. Attempting aggressive DIY fixes can cause further damage.

More information is available here: Repairing leather scratches.

Should I use leather conditioners?

Leather conditioners are not strictly necessary for most users and should be used cautiously.

Over-conditioning can alter the appearance, feel, and natural aging process of leather. If you choose to use a conditioner, apply it sparingly and test it on a small, hidden area first.

Learn more about treatments and conditioners here: Leather treatments & conditioners.

How should I store leather products?

Store leather products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Avoid airtight plastic bags. Leather benefits from airflow and should be stored in a way that allows it to breathe while maintaining its shape.

What should I avoid when using leather goods?

Avoid prolonged exposure to water, heat, oils, chemicals, and abrasive surfaces.

Overloading wallets or applying excessive force to belts and accessories may shorten their lifespan. Normal wear and patina are expected, but misuse can cause premature damage.
