Your trouser waist size, as usual; the strap arrives pre-trimmed to that length. The ratchet track then provides roughly an inch of further adjustment in either direction, so it isn't locked to a single fixed point. Between two sizes, order the larger for extra tightening range.
It's elongated compared to a standard square or rectangle plate, sitting wider across the front of the strap for a more pronounced hardware presence. The gunmetal finish is a dark, matte grey that keeps a moderate contrast against brown leather. HC's logo is laser-engraved at its center.

Wipe it down with a dry cloth after wear, and use a barely damp cloth for marks, letting it air dry fully afterward. A thin coat of neutral leather conditioner once or twice a year keeps the top-grain leather supple. The buckle just needs an occasional wipe when you swap straps.
