Your trouser waist size. The strap ships trimmed to that measurement, and the ratchet track handles about an inch of variation on either side. No holes means every position on the track is available, not just the standard five or six. Between sizes, order the larger.

The strap has a row of teeth along its inner length, the ratchet track. The buckle grips these teeth wherever you pull it tight. To release, press the lever.
