The Saffiano plate takes its name from the cross-hatched texture stamped into the metal surface, echoing the pattern used on Saffiano leather goods. It gives the buckle a subtle, textured look rather than a flat, smooth face, and it uses the same ratchet track and latch mechanism found across the rest of the 1.38-inch collection.
Yes, it accepts any Hedonist Chicago ratchet strap cut to 1.38 inches, regardless of the leather's color. The textured finish complements most strap tones, from black to cognac, since the pattern is subtle rather than an accent color. It's built specifically for the 1.38-inch line and won't fit our 1.15-inch straps.
It's a zinc alloy casting with the cross-hatched Saffiano texture pressed into the surface before the finish is applied. That texture helps mask fine scratches and fingerprints better than a smooth plate would, which makes it a practical choice for everyday carry as well as a distinctive one.
Open the retaining clamp on the underside of the buckle, slide the old strap's cut end free, and insert your 1.38-inch strap's end in the same spot before pressing the clamp shut. No tools are needed, and most people manage the swap in well under a minute.
